Explaination
If your load extends more than four feet beyond the rear of your vehicle, you must do the following: (1) Obtain a special permit from the Texas Department of Transportation Permit Office. (2) Attach a 12-inch-square red flag to the end of your load when traveling during the day. (3) Attach a red light visible for 500 feet to the end of your load when traveling at night. However, there are a couple of exceptions to these requirements. Read sections 14.3 and 14.4 of the Texas Commercial Motor Vehicle Drivers Handbook for details.
