There are three lists used to identify hazardous materials, all created by the US Department of Transportation: (1) the Hazardous Materials Table (49 CFR 172.101); (2) Appendix A to that section, known as the List of Hazardous Substances and Reportable Quantities; and (3) Appendix B to that section, known as the List of Marine Pollutants. Before transporting a hazardous material, you should check all three lists because some materials will be found on more than one list.
