On an urban mass transit coach, the interlock system for the brake and accelerator is used

Mass transit coaches may have a brake-door interlock system. Its purpose is to apply the brakes and keep the engine idling whenever the rear door is open. The interlock releases when you close the rear door. Note: On a bus with a brake-door interlock, opening the rear door is NOT a substitute for applying the parking brake!
